Well, the other problem with "point and shoot" is that almost every camera,
including virtually all of the current pro-level SLRs, has a point and shoot
mode (or, usually, several). And many of the cameras that fall into the
"point and shoot" category actually have full manual control (like the one
I have). So the name isn't even really accurate. But, hey, it's what we
call them, so whatever.
