 soc.culture.hawaii was never an unmoderated group, and hence there was no 
 conversion.  It was created moderated in 1995.  None of the earlier 
 proposals for an unmoderated group were successful. 
  
 Jai's postings to alt.culture.hawaii were a large part of the rationale 
 for making the newsgroup moderated, however.
