It was the best name. In the formal sense it didn't match but the
problem is that the formal definition does not fit with the definition
that photography enthusiasts actually use. Most would identify an SLR
as using an interchangeable lens. It is not elitist. It is just what we
think an SLR is. In many of our opinions the SLR lens is more important
than the SLR camera body.
