| Subj: Remove gtk2 for forky? |
From: jbicha@debian.org Hi team, While the number of packages [1] still using gtk+2.0 in Forky remains a bit high, it is much lower than it used to be. Except for 3 late bugs (2 for packages that were **added** to Debian in 2023, and the 3rd which enabled gtk2 support in 2023), we reported bugs against all these packages in 2020, so it is my opinion that we have been generous with providing time. gtk 3 was initially released in 2011. I think it is doable to remove gtk2 before the release of Debian 14 "Forky" in 2027. If we agree, we should send an email to debian-devel as a MBF announcement and then raise the severity of the bugs to RC. I believe the only key package is the debian-installer which I think we can figure out this development cycle. There are a few more "enablement" key packages like gtk2 themes, and input method support but it's easy to proactively disable that support if we are proceeding with this final stage. [1] https://udd.debian.org/cgi-bin/bts-usertags.cgi?user=pkg-gno e-maintainers%40lists.alioth.debian.org&tag=gtk2 (a few of those are not currently in testing) Thank you, Jeremy B€€cha --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
