It very well might be possible, and I apologize if I did.
"patches welcome" it's what I meant with "not rule out the
implementation [...] if someone provides it"
There was no criticism, hidden or otherwise, in my words. My belief is
that here, like in Debian which is based on volunteers,
authors/contributors can work on whatever features they see fit, either
because they deem them more useful or simply because they take more
joy/satisfaction from doing it.

Indeed it is in general. In this particular case, if one, like me,
doesn't have the skills to help, that would be an empty promise.
