From: nilesh@iki.fi Hi Martin-€€ric, all, I am not an official lintian maintainer, but have been active around its development, reviewing/merging MRs and sometimes submitting my own patches. I happened to skim through the thread, but did not find anything concrete or actionable to submit patches against. General phrases like "based on personal preferences" do not make much sense unless there is more reasoning. Martin-€€ric, you filed #1099787 but you did state in [1] that the reasoning for this is for local package development which lintian does not aim at (as have several follow-ups describe). This is not the first time I am hearing a lintian rant. I've seen this before. It is one of the reasons I do not add myself to the uploaders field of that package. I am not saying any of this in an angry tone, please don't take it otherwise. If there are concrete, actionable list of items to improve and take a look at, which makes things easy for lintian users, please suggest the same. It'd benefit everyone. And ofcourse, I agree that a "review of lintian severity levels" is a good thing to do here. But someone should have spoons for it, and possibly submit patches for the same. A lot of lintian development happens on Merge requests, and as I did observe, it work out pretty well. (And no, I don't want to have yet another discussion about MRs, let's focus energies on topic at hand for now) [1] https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2025/09/msg00351.html Best, Nilesh --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
