It should be noted that wtmpdb is a not unimportant package, as it is the implementation of last(1) which is otherwise gone. Likewise, the rotation is important, as session timing, combined with uids and IPs even, is PII. Having no wtmpdb in trixie would be an unacceptable loss in functionality, and having one without working rotation or that doesnt put its logs into /var/log/ (which can be appropriately secured, put on tmpfs, excluded from backups, etc. depending on applicable legalities) is a surprising piece of work for the admins. For the sake of completeness, I asked for a stable update with fixed log placement and rotation, not one containing the upstream changes, but if the maintainer feels it better and no less safe to include them and they arent too onerous to review, I ask to at least look at the possibility, and if rejected, please do so fast enough Andrew can prepare an alternative version in which everything necessary is added as new patch atop the current trixie package.
