| Subj: Future Shop surprise! |
From: johnl@999queen.west I recall battling the crowd at a Kennedy Road Future shop on a boxing day sale. I had "self-served" in picking up the Canon BJ10 printer I came for (Yeah, that's how long ago it was), and was standing in a long line for a cashier. A salesdroid motioned me over to a checkout, indicating he would ring up the sale. Instead, the deceiving son of a bitch recorded the sale so that HE would get the commission, although he hadn't helped me in any way, and then discarded me to rejoin the cashier lineup. To add insult to injury, I paid cash, and the swarthy immigrant temp help cashier tried to shortchange me. Considering the lineup, if he could con half the suckers for a looney or two, he'd be handsomely supplementing his minimum wage. So, today I venture into the local (Whitby) Future shop, seeking, of all things, a printer - a Samsung all in one laser advertised for $129. I'm sure it'll turn out to be higher, with a mail in "rebate", or an "instant rebate" so I'll have to pay lotsa sales tax. Good grief, they actually have stock! Not only that, I manage to grab one, and start heading for a cashier before being accosted by a salesdroid. Well, actually, not accosted, but courteously asked if I wanted to pay by credit card or debit card, in which case he could ring it in. Suspicious, I said nothing, but watched as it was entered. Surprise - it's actually at the advertised price - no rebate or "instant taxable savings"! I WAS offered the extended warranty, but only once, and not the least bit pushy! I'm flabbergasted. What's happened to Future Shop? I mean, this was actually a decent, pleasant, no hassle enjoyable shopping experience!
