| Subj: CBC item about USA lobbying in connectio |
From: tsanford@nf.sympatico.ca CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) reported Jan 9th, with documentary TV evidence, that US (religious and other) organizations are sending petitions and are lobbying Canadian elected representatives concerning the proposed Canadian 'Gay Marriage' legislation. This would seem to be a case of some trying to influence the internal affairs of Canada, an independent and very democratically run, country! Surely it can not be in the US interest to be seen as so obviously interfering with the internal affairs and decisions of another country? It was reported that there has been some comment that, no matter what the outcome of the vote within our Parliamentary system, any such meddling might cause something of a backlash of Canadian public opinion against the US? In other words US based interests should mind their own business, especially since this is not a matter that has any impact on how the US might wish to run such matters inside their own borders. PS. CBC, although a government funded news organization is not known for favouring or being easy on any government, non government, political, national or international organization and is widely respected internationally for its balanced reporting. --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
