Fiberglass shingles have not really caught on in Canada because the
freeze/thaw cycle caused the early ones to crack. The newer ones a
supposedly better but do you want to take a chance? Composite (i.e.
asphalt) shingles are a no risk way to go.

Couldn't hurt.

This one I'm not sure about. I think it has to do with the pitch of
your roof. The steeper it is, the less thickness you need(?)

3-tab shingles have 3 evenly-spaced, straight tabs. Architectural
shingles have somewhat randomly spaced/shaped tabs, meant to duplicate
the look of old-time wooden shingles. If you like the look, then it
might be worth it to you (not to me).

Turbine vent. It's ugly, but it moves more air then any other type of
vent (unless you add a powered fan).
