 Thanks for your reply.  I'm not sure that active-noise-cancellation 
 ("electronic noise abatement") is an option though.  I'm aware of the 
 technology but don't know that it is so simple to obtain and apply (let 
 alone afford for consumer use).  I understand the active noise cancellation 
 _headsets_ are readily available and affordable and work well (at least for 
 machinery type noise).  But then so do foam earplugs and I don't fancy the 
 idea of having to wear a headset in bed any more than I presently enjoy 
 having to use earplugs.  But now that you got me into thinking about it, 
 I've taken the time to search the Web on the subject.  I see lots of 
 technical sites, but I can't find any links to commercial sites [other than 
 for the headsets] where I could actually look into buying 
 active-noise-cancellation equipment.  Do you know of any yourself?
