From: gary.shearing@sympatico.ca Hi, I am presently in the planning and design process of a small home for my wife and myself. It is a 2"x6" wood frame structure, inside (Enermax) and outside (Excel II) wood fiber structural panels, inside and outside strapping, 7/16" MDF panel siding and 1/2" interior gypsum board. To maximise the walls thermal resitance I am planning on spacing the studs on 24" centers. With this configuration is it possible to use in the bath and utility rooms 21 1/2" width windows that would fit between the wall studs without adding trimmer studs and a double header (lintel)? I was thinking that since the windows do not reduce the number of wall studs and that there is no load on the header I could instal a 2"x6" member in place of a double header and eliminate the trimmer studs on each side that normally absorbs the load from the header. Can anyone confirm that I am correct or not in my reasonning. Thanks in advance, Gary --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
