I doubt if Martin and the Liberals will suffer much of a hit, regardless of
what form the "new" Conservative party will take, if there is an election
next Spring. There will be more Alliance/Old Conservative infighting.. as
they try to set new policies. Unless they get a platform that can be
understood, and isn`t too centrist ( they have to offer more then a platform
like "vote for us because we are not the Liberal Party" ) What they have to
do is lay the groundwork, get new fresh faces ( with no convention room
deals ala Orchard ).. to position themselves to fight Martin's successor, in
the following election ( or even if Martin is still there, 4 years of
majority Government, he might have a little less mystique, and have a little
more tarnish, as he will have a record to defend, unlike today where his
reputation , and lack of clear alternatives will give the Liberals another
Majority in the spring)
