These trips are designed to increase the candidates/recruits awareness of
Canadian military history. I think it's a great idea and the
candidates/recruits really enjoy it. The trips are always scheduled on
weekends (working on weekends again ... my wife just loves that ;) ) and is
 now part of the curriculum.

Funny feeling to see the combat uniform I used to wear, the rifle I learned
on, the first aircraft I worked on (Kiowa) and other gear I have used now
being displayed as "notable historical equipment". I feel old when I go
there but I guess that it better having that situation then having "notable
historical equipment" in use (such as the Sea King).

The candidates/recruits also participate in a remembrance parade at a
military cemetery in Pointe Claire in the company of veterans from the
Legions. I haven't participated in that yet but the candidates from my
platoon told me they enjoyed that (even with the rain) and it is also held
on a weekend. Usually the parade on Saturday and the museum on Sunday (or
vice versa) on their 3rd weekend.
