| Subj: Zip, CD and Folder Advice Required |
From: tommy.glassford2@virgin.net I'm not too sure if I'm visiting the proper newsgroup. I'm looking for advice on a number of things. The first is my zip drive is finding it hard to make sense of one of my disks. It could be that the actual disk needs to hit the bin, but there's a lot of important data that I'd hate to lose. The reason I say the above is that my other disks are alright. I've only had this problem fall on me since installing Windows XP. When you open the zip disk you find a notepad document entitled 'READTHIS', when you open the document you get the following - This disk was compressed using DriveSpace 3, which requires Windows 98. To use this disk, you must first mount it. To mount it: 1. Run DriveSpace by choosing Run from the Windows 98 Start menu, and then typing DRVSPACE. 2. In DriveSpace, click the drive that contains this disk, click the Advanced menu, and then click Mount. (If this file is located on a drive other than the physical drive that contains the disk, then the compressed drive is already mounted). To automatically mount all available compressed drives, click the Advanced menu, click Settings, and then check the "Automatically mount new compressed drives" box. IMPORTANT: To mount and use this compressed disk, you must be running Windows 98. What I would like to know is how do I mount this disk using XP?? My second problem is gaining access to family images on a CD. I can read all my other CDs but all I get is the Jpeg icon and the image cannot be opened. Like I say, I don't have this problem with other CDs just this one. I can read the various folders and their names like the dates etc, but when I open each folder and try to open the contents, forget it. It's the same with opening word documents on the CD, I just get 'read only' and it's wee boxes. I had to chuck my previous computer out, and it asked me for a password for this CD, and this was with every image! This new CD doesn't, you just cannot open any. Again maybe it's the CD that is for the bin, but I feel there is some advice out there that can maybe save the pictures. My third query isn't as technical. it's more of knowledge. I'm wanting to print out a list of the contents of a folder, how do I go about doing that? I'll hope that there's someone out there that can at least take care of one out of three. My email is tommy@NOSPAMshanklandglassford.fsnet.co.uk and I'll hope to hear from you. If I've visited your newsgroup incorrectly, my apologies, but thanks for reading. Take care, Tommy. --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05 * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2) |
