We need 45 hours, so say a 20 hours dual, 25 hours solo.
In a C172, at a nominal rate of 124 per Hobbs hour, and with taxes in, my
dual per-hour-air-time *actually* works out to 210 per hour, so there is
4200.
My solo per-hour-air-time works out to almost 145, with taxes and mandatory
insurance. That's 25 hours at 145 equals 3625.
Together, that's just barely shy of 8,000, and its not counting supplies,
ground school and the small stuff.
I hear that the national average is closer to 70 hours, not 45, so its
pretty easy to see 10 or 12 grand or more.
At the rate I have been going, I am pretty certain to see 12.
