The US navy did take casualties and lose vessels (five, all 'mined')
in the Korean war but Carter was no where near it.

He was a submarine officer after two years on battleship (1946-1948),
and was assigned to the nuclear submarine program in 1950. Neither of
the two (at the time) nuclear 'boats' were deployed to Korea as the
construction took so long that SSN 571 USS Seawolf (Carter's ship) was
not even launched until 1957, after he had left the navy to take on
the family business after his father's death in 1953.

How many Bush staffers does it take to change a light
 bulb?

Two, one to remove a good lightbulb and give it to a
millionaire and one to swipe a new light bulb from the
 Social Security Administration
