You should take a two week trip into China and take a very good look
at the vegetarian diet they have there. Not by choice either. There
is no land left for the wildlife.
Cereal crops displace wildife habitat, they are a monoculture that
does not provide the wildlife with all the requirements to survive.
In some places the wildlife have to be fenced out of their tradional
habitat so that crops of vegetables can be grown.

And is this the same quality of food that people can eat?
Your average cow has four stomaches and the ability to digest a whole
lot of plant cells that the average human can not.
Cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and chickens all allow humans to live in
areas that would not support humans with the local crops they could
grow.
