 €Safe sex does not exist€ Say Russian Parliamentarians 
  
 MOSCOW, June 10, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) € Russian officials are warning 
 that the so-called €safe-sex€ message is having the reverse of its 
 intended effect € it is the cause of an epidemic of sexually transmitted 
 diseases (STDs). 
  
 According to Russia€s Pravda news source, lawmakers are calling the 
 safe-sex message €propaganda.€ €People started thinking after the €Safe 
 Sex€ program that they would be able to protect themselves against any 
 disease,€ said Moscow's parliamentary committee for healthcare spokesman 
 Ludmila Stebenkova. €They let themselves go on this assumption.€ 
  
 Because of the false sense of security many people feel, the misled 
 belief that condoms will act as a catch-all for all potential STDs is 
 leading to increased incidence of STDs and out-of-marriage pregnancy. 
 Russia is ranked third world-wide, after the Ukraine and Moldova, for 
 the number of abortions. In particular, Pravda warns, condoms offer no 
 protection against the human papillomas virus (HPV), the incidence of 
 which has increased there by 50 percent in recent years. Herpes, fungal 
 infections and genital wart cases are all also on the rise. 
  
 €One should propagandize total abstinence before marriage,€ Stebenkova 
 maintained. €The safe sex propaganda in the USA, for example, has 
 resulted in the dissolution of morals. Sexually transmitted diseases 
 started progressing there. That is why the US government assigns huge 
 money to promote the value of innocence and virginity. It is coming into 
 fashion.€ 
  
 Moscow plans to introduce the new abstinence campaign this summer, with 
 stickers and posters in the metro proclaiming, €Safe sex does not exist.€
