If I wear a sign that says I'm not responsible for anything I steal,
think I'd get away with robbing a store blind?
Just because that's what the sign says doesn't mean it would hold up.

The neat thing about being self-concerned is that it works as long as
everybody takes care of themselves and stands up for themselves.
The way I see it, there are two options, either the store will want my
money or not. If not, they've done no worse to me then I would have
done to them by voting with my dollars -- I can go elsewhere.
However, so far I have yet to see a store that was more interested in
enforcing their policy, they pretty much always seem to end up being
more interested in my credit card.

In general I suspect it does reduce shoplifting, and at least in
principle, shoplifting will either raise prices or reduce the company's
profits.
Since they're in business to make money, I don't begrudge them for
wanting to make money.
