 Yes.  The nuclear family is only the most limited subset of a human society 
 that is reproduceable.  It is not the most robust and, by itself, not 
 the most pleasant social structure available. 
  
 A gay friend of mine pointed out, in film and lit, that the "Leave it to 
 Beaver" 
 family of the '50s was a construct that was promulgated thru the middle of 
 the 
 last century thru a media code that was forced upon Hollywood by the RC 
 church 
 and some other statist groups who see the arts as a focus for "sinful 
 thinking". 
  
 The reduction of american society thru the use of such limited social models 
 has 
 resulted in a population that is as profoundly ill at ease with themselves 
 as 
 with 
 rest of human society.  This renders us easily parasitized by groups that 
 hold 
 their own societies in higher regard than we do.
