 The nuclear family never existed, solo, in any great numbers before 
 the invention of TV.  People didn't live like that, 200 years 
 ago, if they didn't have to. 
  
 A nuclear family is only the most basic, stripped down, version of 
 a "functional" human society.  Most people have extended "families" 
 that include friends and relatives.   I feel sorry for you.

  In the big picture, it's the ''extended family'' unit that is the 'proven' 
 backbone of  ''progressive'' societies in the world today.  Through out 
 man's history, various societies have tried  all  the combinations and 
 permutations of 'marriage', so nothing is really new.    When people stop 
 having kids, the extended family will cease to exist but so will 
 man....problem solved.
