You have the cart before the horse. How can you expect an ancient
virus/worm program to know the file system, registry, and what files are
safe, for an OS that did not exist when they were written?
So it is not necessarily that XP cannot run the programs, it is that the
programs would be totally clueless what to do in XP.
For example I had AutoCAD Lite for Win3.x. It would run under Win95, but
had trouble with any files that referred to long filenames, because all it
knew was 8.3 character filenames (longer DOS/Win filenames did not exist
when it was written).
